Hey, I'm Grant.
And this is Dogbeard Digital.

That's me!

I started Dogbeard with the vision of taking the concept of a Fractional CMO, and making it a bit more flexible. I love getting into the weeds with marketing but I've also got the experience of working at Head/Directorial levels of marketing for large brands to be able to lead an overall vision. But you can read all of that on the main page. Here's a bit about me as a person.

I'm an ex-touring musician and got to do some pretty awesome stuff in my time, from touring across Canada and into the US, playing huge punk/rock festivals like Warped Tour (shout to my aging millenials!), and recording a few albums. As it turns out music isn't an incredibly fruitful career path for everyone, but I learned that I was very good at the marketing side of it so I went back to school. I dove headfirst into digital marketing and have been working in it for the last 10+ years!

These days I mostly hang out at home in Edmonton, Alberta, which is where my digital marketing agency is located. My wife and I have two little boys who keep us very busy (and me quite grey), plus two big ol' Labrador Retrievers. I'm big into distance running, reading sci-fi and fantasy, and playing video games like Mass Effect, Destiny, and Dragon Age.

Awesome, but what the hell is a Dogbeard?

It's a ridiculous name from an Instagram post in my 20s. And to be honest, it's my personal reminder to find inspiration in the seemingly uninspiring. A friend of mine had just gotten a rescue dog who was kind of scraggly and dressed him up as a wizard for Halloween. The caption was "Dogbeard the Wizard" or something to that effect. For whatever reason that was really funny to me, so I wrote Dogbeard down in my notes app.

It wasn't until years later, when thinking about building my business and needing a name that I stumbled across Dogbeard again and thought, "why not!". So here we are, nothing special, nothing necessarily noteworthy, just a name from some social post. Big thanks to Max (the OG Dogbeard the Wizard) for the inspiration. We'll miss you buddy.

Let's talk.
